And now for something completely different... some nostalgia in a tribute to the faithful coordinator of an open Desert Stream support group which preceeded Safe Passage, a poem read aloud on the night of the last meeting; 8/3/92 Sonia©

There was a time, not long past

When our battle though fierce was unknown

Normalcy feigned, the pain was masked

Through emptiness dark we struggled alone

So many questions unasked

Countless sorrows untold

Amid a Body unable to relate

Appeared through Christ a refuge

Tim its devoted Advocate

Of HA and Desert Stream converged

In 17 Steps a distillate, healing journey to contemplate

A redemptive Point of Turning emerged

Into our groups we did resolve

In safety our burdens to liberate

Upon our wounds His healing salve

Rest for souls bearing the weight

Of sins only the Savior could absolve

In brokenness His presence to celebrate

. Yet within the center of His grace
. Thoughtful structure had its place
. . Each person please say their name
. . . So toTim it's sufficiently plain
. . . . Within the hearing of our sound
. . . . . No technicolor details to be found
. . . . . . In our support, no advice is read
. . . . . . In pure listening, deep trust is bred
. . . . . Every member asked to play a part
. . . . Every teacher needs a start
. . . If borrowed books don't return when due
. . Just know, the Librarian will find you
. And just as sharing comes to its prime
. Ten O' Clock, we've run out of time

Through it all Tim served with excellence

Through a "year of weeks" he earned admiration

For of all evenings he gave a seventh

Plus times with leaders in solemn convocation

And--with all pursuing wholeness beyond the labyrinth

To God we unite, receiving through others His affirmation

Though at last we adjourn

It is not in despair

For throughout the Church

Increasing redemption there

And as we press through our sojourn

We carry a treasure rare

Many precious things learned

Many wonderful things to share
