Safe Passagesupport for those struggling with homosexuality
|
The Lord has been faithful to lead participants to Safe Passage (a healing support group) who are longing for a deepened journey of intimacy with God amidst sexual struggles including homosexuality, distressed gender identity, and/or possibly related issues of sexual abuse or sexual addiction. Our gatherings include worship, teaching, healing prayer, Communion, and group support -- connecting each one with the holy and compassionate Shepherd whose own heart is extended to us in joy and vulnerability, and Who has the power to redeem in us the capacity to connect with others in ways that uniquely reflect His own life. This year, the work has been multi-faceted: some participants "graduating" to Living Waters (a nine-month healing program offered by Desert Stream), others returning for ongoing support, and yet others unseen but connected through prayer and dialogue on the Internet. Some do not know how the journey will unfold but are reaching, longing to know His face. In the midst of prayer and worship, the Lord reveals His love and healing presence, and in the midst of fellowship there is liberating truth and mitigation of aloneness. Continued intercession is much valued, as St. Jude's is the fertile ground in which such a work can thrive. Plans for 1999 include ongoing prayer-team participation for healing conferences, ongoing correspondences and writings (particularly with new-ish believers), closer connections with Safe Passage intercessors and related groups, and availability to equip and encourage others to faithfully share Christ's healing presence to those seeking to reflect His image from the core of their being. The unrestrained willingness to entrust one's depths unto Christ, Who withheld nothing of Himself from us -- and relinquish all that would otherwise define or humanly compel us -- is indeed a powerful evidence of His grace and a profound symbol of renewal for the whole Church!
