Hi, It"s towards the end of the year here and I am having an awards ceremony to honor my students and am inviting my parents. I already have several awards templates but am looking for more. I teach first grade and am not good on the computer (meaning I am not comfortable-or I guess you could say not ambitious,) creating my own awards. If anyone has ideas for academic and/or silly /sentimental end of the year awards I would greatly appreciate your wisdom and input and especially your templates. Thanks!!! :) Jen

Hello,
I was surfing the web and discovered this site. I am a special education assistant teacher in a moderate class k-2. I am currently pursuing a online master"s degree in special education and my assignment this week is to write a curriculum guide for reading, writing and spelling. The problem is that I have never seen what this looks like and since I am a visual learner, I am having a difficult time of doing this assignment. I would like to know if there are any special education teacher out there who could guide me trhough this process. I would greately appreciate it by Monday April 16th. since my assignment is now overdue.
Thank you.

HELP!!! I am desparate and completely burned out. I work in an inner city school district in the Hudson Valley that is more like working in the South Bronx. The language and actions in my classroom mimic more of a prison atmosphere with insults, fights, and foul language than a classroom. The administration has pretty much told myself and the other teachers that work with these students (grade 7, 8, & 9), that we are the ones trained in Special Education and we have to deal with it. I am constantly being reminded on a daily basis by the students that I am white and they are black (majority of them). I try and acknowledge what they are saying, but almost daily the students try and tell me that decisions that I make are "because they are black." I am not even through the full school year, and with two months to go I am totally and completly burned out. I do not know how I will make it to June. I am in constant fear that I will loose my job, but I desparately need it. What options do I have? I have to stay, my family depends on me financially. This is also my third position in 3 years, but with only 2 districts. I left this district for a year and thought I was so lucky to be back. The administration has made it completely clear that they will take the word of the students over mine. I had my life threatened and all the students in the class heard it and lied for their classmate. When I "thanked" them for their support and honesty, I was told they were not snitches. HELP!! What should I do. I really need professional advise.

Hi everyone,
I need some advice on where to begin catering for the needs of one of my students. They have a chronological age of 5.4 and a developmental age of 11 months. We have teacher aid support for 2 thirds of the day. I am not trained in anyway to deal with special needs and am finding it all rather overwhelming. Nothing has been put in place for this child.
Can anyone recommend some websites or resources that they have used with success. Where do I start? Cheers.

Thanks for providing this great site. I have not visited for about 5 years but am certainly passing on the details to my colleagues. I work in the remote Australian Outback, in an Indigenous community, some 250 Kms from the nearest large town. Having access to other professionals via this site is great for keeping in touch with the latest issues and also helps to keep us focused on what we can achieve here.

Hello! I just discovered this wedsite, it"s fantastic. I am a first year teacher from Canada, who is teaching grade 5 in Hong Kong. We are switching to a program, as a school, in which every student has a personal laptop. I am on a mission to find lesson plans and/or software that could help next year. Particularily French, Math and Health. I am hoping for sutff that would keep them moving around rather than siting at their desks. If you have any tips or advice I would greatly appreciate it!

Hi everyone. I am in the midst of my student teachign and will need to complete a unit plan to graduate. This unit needs to be an intergrated unit and will be done in an 8th grade social studies classroom. I am completly comfortable with my topic, which is the late 19th to early 20th century US history, specifically the indians, the expansion of the railroads and such. I am trying to determine some possible ideas on how to make the unit intergrated. I am looking for art, music, PE, health lessons or ideas that i can incorpate into this lesson. I will be teaching the lesson over a 2 to 3 week period. Any suggestions would be fantastic. Thanks.

I"m a new SPED teacher at my high school. I feel I could be doing more. The schedule at the school has me visiting many differents classrooms throughout the week. So I have very little time to bond with the students. Also, everyone keeps mistaking me for a student (I wear collar shirts and dress pants and make up). What can I do to seem more mature?

Wow! I already had a response to my previous message. Thanks. I love this site. Here"s another question. Does anyone have any good suggestions for teaching Reading to 10th and 11th graders. I teach in a very diversified SED classroom, but I only have six students. It kind of makes it difficult to break them up into groups according to need because there are so few of them. If I get very simple, some of them are bored out of their minds where maybe 1 or 2 need that type of instruction. It also makes planning very difficult. I"ve tried REWARDS but as I said, the ones that can read somewhat get bored and complain.

I am a somewhat experienced ESE teacher (5 years), teaching in a new county and at a new school for me. I have been having issues dealing w/my full-time aide. Because I"m new, it seems as if everyone believes I"m the problem and not him. I see things differently. I think that he is abusing the fact that I am new to the school and is not doing the job he was hired to do. The first time I went to people regarding the way he handled students (Reprimanding and doling out consequences in front of other students in the lunch room), he turned my suggestions of dealing with the student in a more private setting, into my disregard for the school"s behavior plan. I was subjected to a meeting that ended up w/me looking like the bad guy because of his twinsting my words around. Since then he has taken it upon himself to come and go from the classroom whenever he sees fit. After my first experience of what I call a witch hunt, I am afraid that no one will listen to my complaints. However, I feel this is an issue that must be dealt with before I have no say so at all regarding what he does in my classroom. Can I get some advice about this?
