To the special ed. teacher. Being a sp.ed. teacher of 25 years,I know how lost you feel without the proper materials. Ask your principal, supervisor,or team leaders for any monies or grants that would help your children have quality materials. There are also book companies that will send good samples of materials that could be shown to the aforementioned people to give you a running start on how important these materials are to the educational welfare of your students.Special education teachers are always the last funded and asked to do miracles with nothing. The Buffalo board of education takes the same stance on education when it cimes to special education students.I feel your pain.

I am a supervisor of student teachers. One of my stu. teachers is having a rough time. She is seriously reconsidering if she wants to be a teacher. I have observed her teaching and she is fine in that area and relates well to her students. I have tried to bolster her confidence explaining that all stu. teachers are under pressure & have the same concerns. I think, however that her concerns have "been brewing" for awhile. I do not want her to fail, or to quit. What are your thoughts--positive ones only please--on how I should guide her?

While I am not a teacher (I am currently a full-time college student), I have always enjoyed working with children and have had the immense privilege to work with special education students in the past. I have recently been brain-storming to come up with a personal project with which to occupy myself while at school (one can only study for so long!) that would be of a direct benefit to others. One thing I repeatedly came back to was something involving my love of teaching -- more specifically a teacher resource, especially for those that teach special education classes. I was wondering if anyone would be able to tell me if there are any specific curriculums given for these types of classes (i.e. textbooks, teacher guides, etc. rather than just a list of what the class is expected to learn in any given year as mandated by the school board), and, if so, what these curriculum are lacking or where improvement is needed. For example, I know that it is necessary to adapt many of the materials taught in order to meet these students" needs; are these adaptations provided before-hand, or is it expected of the educator to accomplish these tasks? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance for your time and assistance! Sincerely, -Natalie

Grading advice for student teachers needed! I recently presented a PP lesson with an Image Analysis Sheet as the students" in-class assignment. Yet, I provided ambiguous instructions for completing the guide and class time also ran out. So, how can I penalize students for my ineffeciency? But, 75% of them did fulfill the assignment! Thanks for any suggestions. P.S. my mentor teacher has already been consulted on this matter, but provided no feedback.

I am currently a teacher in Toronto Ontario. I am thinking of moving out to Victoria B.C. for a change of pace. I have friends out there and it just seems like a good idea. My question is what is the teaching situation out there? Is it anything like Toronto, where new teachers are finding it EXTREMELY difficult to find any work?
Thank you for your help!

I was wondering how different teachers set a "climate for thinking" in their classrooms? What specific strategies do you use and why? I am taking a class where I need different opinions about this topic. Thanks.
